Leopold Mozart said that the 1770 Bologna oil looked very much like Wolfgang. These portraits are discussed above in this post as well as in a published article I wrote in the International Journal of Medical Humanities. Mozart seems to have been physically frail with delicate features, with protruding eyes and a strong nose. However, the construction of the face as portrayed in the portraits seems to me impossible to exist: with an excessively protruding nose and chin. With an impossible cranium, even if the accepted portraits recognize and portray the same features, none of them show a real person. I regret Mozart was not painted by a great portrait artist, since in the existing ones I fruitlessly try to envision him to have existed in this way in real life. The paintings seem to be distorted by the artists' inability to render correctly. Perhaps this unreal, deformed aspect in his portraits is causing the mystery to continue around Mozart's appearance? Only the portrait of Joseph Lange seems correct to me. Thanks. GretaGretahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09348081430742687094noreply@blogger.com
